WCHM Plans A "New Members Campaign" in 2026 by Treasurer Jed Malischke

The Wisconsin Canoe Heritage Museum is on an unsustainable financial path. Both the 2025 and 2026 budgets that the organization is operating under anticipate annual deficits of up to $15,000. These annual losses are anticipated due to several organizational improvements made in the last few years, which have increased our expenses without a corresponding increase in revenues. This needs to change.

The WCHM Board of Directors has a three pronged strategy, which includes a 2026 campaign to bring in 100 new members to the organization.

WCHM is committed to collecting, preserving, and interpreting the history and heritage of canoes in North America through a nationally significant collection, engaging exhibits, and educational programs. This important work depends on the generosity and commitment of its members. A strong base of members is crucial for any non-profit because it directly affects the organization’s impact, stability, and credibility. Our members are people who believe in this mission, and who want to be part of making it happen.

In the coming months we will be asking our current members for help with this campaign. It may be something simple as submitting a name, giving a gift membership, or passing on a brochure to someone you know. In the meantime I want to thank the 2025 members for their extra support. And I look forward to expanding the list in 2026.

The Wisconsin Canoe Heritage Museum is heading once again to Madison, Wisconsin for Canoecopia on March 13-15, 2026. WCHM will have a larger booth inside the main space with raffle canoes, and some Wisconsin made canoes from our newest exhibit in the museum. Canoecopia is the largest consumer paddle sports expo in the world and features about 90 presentations. This year, Canoecopia received 140 topics from 110 different applicants. The event runs Friday, March 13 through Sunday, March 15 2026 at the Alliant Energy Center. WCHM will also use Canoecopia to kick off our annual canoe raffle! Stop by our booth to get your raffle tickets for a chance to win either a 15' Prospector canoe or a 15' MacKenzie-Yost MyPal canoe. $20 a ticket or 6 for $100. We hope to see you there!
